I’m doing a few excerpts from HEIRESS OF THE NILE, my most recent ancient Egyptian paranormal romance.
The snippet – skipping ahead a bit from last week. I omitted the explanation Pebatma gives the priestess of her family’s troubles. She breaks down in tears and is comforted, and says:
“I’m so sorry to burden you with my entire basket of worries.”
“I asked, did I not?” Tapping her toe, the priestess watched her for a moment, her eyes dark and sparkling. “Today is the day, little sister. Change is carried in the breeze from Mother Nile and the god of Fate plays with the lives of others now. Be patient, walk one step at a time and remember in life as in the game of senet one cannot jump to the golden square and claim victory without passing through the challenges first.” She raised one hand, sketching the symbol for Hathor in midair, which glowed turquoise. “Go forth, have faith and be well.”
Pebatma blinked as the glare from the blazing symbol grew blinding. When she opened her eyes, she was outside the temple, standing in the doorway of a shop, having no memory of how she left the priestess.

I’m late making the rounds this week. Having a goddess to unburden oneself to sounds wonderful. However, after listening to me, the goddess might be tempted to charge by the hour! 😉
